Napa Valley Good Eats

Yountville is a gourmet mecca and of course my favorite town in the wine country

Bouchon Bakery
6534 Washington St. Yountville, CA
www.bouchonbistro.com

The best French macaroons outside of France!
Thomas Keller quaint bakery adjacent to his popular Bouchon restaurant is a great spot for lunch. They make the best sandwiches (they bake their bread there) using local cheeses, meats and produce. The grilled ham & cheese is their best with the freshest ham and cave aged gruyere. There are several tables outside under a large oak tree where you can sit and watch the world go by. You can't leave without trying at least one macaroon. I also buy to bring home- cookies and the currant bread loaf.

Redd Restaurant

1 Michelin star *

Chef Richard Reddington, formerly of Masa’s and Jardiniere in San Francisco, and Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley has done a fantastic job with this restaurant. The food is wine country meats Europe and Asia with creative touches and combinations of flavors one would never expect to blend well, but somehow it does here. The wine list is extensive, impressive and comparable in price to other restaurants in the area. We ate here earlier this month with a large group so we had our own menu with less options than the regular one. Everything was amazing and we had some though to please customers in our group. The ambiance is casual hip to match the cool and simplistic decor. I did notice quite a bit of "oldies" dining that day but I think they take the 6PM reservation.
Overall- LOVED this place for the food and recommend it for special occasions.

Moving North to Calistoga...

Chef Brandon Sharp has an impressive resume: he was the Sous Chef at Gary Danko, he also worked at Restaurant August in New Orleans and the so prestigious French Laundry in Yountville. And his food lives up to his accolades! I've eaten here several times and you basically can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The vibe is casual and it reminds me of a W Hotel outdoors. Hope you get Reagen as your waitress. She looks like Julia Stiles and will give you great service.
Tip- the resort is a great place for a romantic getaway.

My usual stop on the way home:

The Boon Fly Cafe
4048 Sonoma Highway Napa, CA

After a day of wine tasting we like to stop here for a quick bite before heading home. The concept here is the same as all Plumpjack resorts and restaurants: fresh local and seasonal ingredients, an interesting menu and non-pretentious setting. My favorite is the steamed PEI mussels with andouille sausage. You can't go wrong with any of the flatbreads and the kobe beef burger is famous. The wine list offers a variety of local flavors and like all Plumpjack restaurants without the obnoxious mark ups.
